The Arrival of the Herring Run

In 2009, Joe and Kathy Hicinbothem purchased the CertaPro franchise incorporating Barnstable, Dukes, and Martha's Vineyard counties. While the Hicinbothems have led the local operation for nearly two decades, this territory has been a staple of the Cape’s professional landscape since the very inception of CertaPro Painters in 1992.

Mid-April marks the traditional return of the alewife and blueback herring to our local brooks, such as the Stony Brook run in Brewster. This migration follows a precise biological clock; as soon as the coastal waters hit 50°F, these "scouts" begin their journey from the Atlantic into our freshwater ladders. For generations, this event has signaled the true end of winter, bringing locals to the banks to witness a cycle of renewal that predates the bridges themselves.
