Initial Condition

The interior of this home in Eagan, MN was already in great condition when we arrived. The rooms had honey oak wood trim throughout it and their cabinets consisted of honey oak and solid oak. The bathroom vanities were also going through a remodeling to make them taller.

Scope of Work

  • Prime and paint all of the trim, including windows, window frames, doors, door frames, baseboards, columns, and stairway handrails
  • Prime and paint all kitchen cabinet, laundry cabinets, and butler pantry cabinets
  • Prime and paint 5 of their bathroom vanities

Challenges and Solutions

To start, the customer did not want to see any wood grain on their solid oak cabinets. This meant our crew had to use Aqua Coat wood grain filler on the cabinet, a product that the crew had never used before. Application involved applying the filler, then sanding the cabinets, then applying the filler again, and then sanding the cabinets again.

Additionally, our customer was very sensitive to smells, meaning we had to find a way to cover up the strong smell of oil primers. To start, we set up an in-room ventilation tool to pull smells and dust in rooms we were sanding and priming and used a product called Kabosh. When mixed into the primer, it allowed us to reduce the odor coming from the oil primer.

Conclusion

Overall, the entire project took 13 days to complete in May 2023. The new, white coat of paint on the home’s trim and cabinets gave them a more “clean” look, covering up any remnants of their original honey oak and solid oak construction.
