The Secret to a Great Painting Experience Isn’t What You Think
Posted on July 1, 2026
After analyzing 2,735 customer surveys collected over the past 20 years, we discovered the biggest predictor of an exceptional painting project wasn’t the paint itself – it was the partnership between the homeowner and the crew.
We Studied 20 Years of Customer Feedback. Here’s What We Learned About Having a Great Painting Experience.
Every year we ask our customers to tell us how we did.
Not just on Google, but through our own internal customer surveys. Recently, we decided to do something we’d never done before – we looked back at 20 years of feedback to see what patterns emerged.
The numbers surprised us.
- 2,735 customer surveys analyzed
- 2,599 customers (95%) gave us the highest ratings across the board.
- 136 customers (5%) shared constructive feedback that helped us identify opportunities to improve.
While we’re proud of those numbers, what interested us most wasn’t how many customers were happy.
It was why.
It’s Probably Not What You Think
Before starting this project, I assumed the happiest customers would mostly talk about beautiful paint jobs.
Fresh colors.
Straight lines.
Perfect finishes.
Those things certainly mattered – but they weren’t what people talked about most. Instead, one theme appeared again and again.
Relationships and communication.
The customers who had the very best experiences felt like they were part of the process – not just watching it happen.
Our Happiest Customers Had Five Things in Common
They Got to Know Their Job Site Supervisor
Our Job Site Supervisors are much more than painters – they’re your project manager, daily communicator, and advocate throughout the project.
One easy way to start that relationship before we even arrive is to read your supervisor’s biography on our website https://certapro.com/bryn-mawr/our-team/. You’ll learn about their experience, see their photo, and get a feel for who will be leading your project. It’s a simple step that helps put a name and face with the person who will be in your home.
Then, on the first day, spend 15–20 minutes walking through the project together. That investment pays dividends throughout the job.
- They Invested Time in the Initial Walkthrough
Rather than rushing to get started, our happiest customers took time to review every detail before work began.
Together, they discussed:
- Areas needing extra attention
- Repairs
- Color placement
- Expectations
- Questions or concerns
Those conversations prevented misunderstandings before they ever had a chance to develop.
- They Stayed Engaged Throughout the Project
One practice that consistently stood out was the daily update.
At the end of each workday, we like to spend a few minutes reviewing what was accomplished, discussing what’s planned for tomorrow, and answering any questions that may have come up.
These conversations are often brief, but they’re incredibly valuable. Small questions get answered before they become larger concerns, and everyone finishes each day on the same page.
- They Leaned on Our Team’s Experience
Many customers mentioned how valuable it was to ask for advice.
Whether choosing colors, deciding how to repair damaged surfaces, or selecting the right finish, they viewed us as trusted professionals – not just painters.
The best projects felt like partnerships.
- They Participated in the Pride Walk
Our final walkthrough isn’t just about finding touch-ups.
It’s about making sure you’re genuinely excited about the finished project before we pack up.
Taking a few extra minutes to walk the project together ensures every detail has been addressed and gives us the opportunity to exceed your expectations.
What About the Customers Who Weren’t 100% Happy?
Interestingly, most of the constructive feedback wasn’t about paint.
Instead, it centered around things like:
- Communication
- Scheduling updates
- Knowing who to contact
- Setting expectations
- Staying informed throughout the project
That reinforced something we’ve believed for years:
A great painting experience is about much more than applying paint well.
It’s about making homeowners feel informed, comfortable, and confident every step of the way.
Our Promise

We’ll continue improving our systems because every survey teaches us something.
If there’s one lesson we took away from reviewing 2,735 customer surveys over the past 20 years, it’s this:
The best painting projects happen when homeowners and our team work together.
A strong relationship with your supervisor.
A thoughtful walkthrough before work begins.
A quick daily update.
Open communication.
A thorough Pride Walk at the end.
Those simple habits consistently separated a good experience from an exceptional one.
Thank you to every customer who has taken the time to complete a survey over the past two decades. Whether your feedback was glowing or constructive, you’ve helped us become a better company – and for that, we’re grateful.
