BACKGROUND
The Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society, located in Ardmore, PA, is one of the oldest skating clubs in the country. Its historic rink and facilities required a full-scale refresh to preserve both the building’s charm and its functionality for members and events.
PROJECT SCOPE
CertaPro Painters of the Main Line was selected to complete a full interior and exterior painting project. The scope included:
- Exterior: refinishing and repainting the full façade to restore curb appeal and protect against weather damage. This portion was booked and completed in July 2025, with a project value of about $50,000.
- Interior: multiple phases of full interior painting, budgeted at approximately $75,000, as part of a larger $150,000 package tied to a broader $6 million renovation.
CHALLENGES
- Historic Preservation: The building’s historic architecture required careful preparation and paint application to preserve original materials.
- Scheduling: Work needed to be phased around skating activities and events, minimizing disruption to members.
- Scale: Balancing a project of this size within the overall renovation timeline required tight coordination with other contractors.
EXECUTION
Our crews prepared surfaces meticulously, addressing old coatings and minor substrate repairs before applying premium-quality paints. On the exterior, weather-resistant finishes were applied to ensure durability. Inside, bright, clean finishes transformed the rink, common areas, and supporting facilities to reflect both heritage and modern functionality.
