The Secret Behind Our Success: Creating Profit-Sharing Partners, Not Just Workers
Posted on June 5, 2026
After nearly 35 years and almost 12,000 painting projects on the Main Line, people often ask me the same question:
“How do you find such great painters?”
The answer surprises them. It’s not because we’re better at recruiting. It’s not because we pay the highest hourly wages. And it’s not because we have some secret painting technique.
The secret is that we’ve spent decades creating opportunities for people to grow from workers into profit-sharing partners, leaders, entrepreneurs, and even business owners.
I’ve always believed that people do their best work when they have ownership.
When someone is simply earning an hourly wage, they may focus on the next task.
When someone shares in the success of the project, they focus on the outcome.
That difference changes everything.
Many of our painters started with us carrying ladders, masking windows, and learning the basics. Over time, they developed their craft, learned how to communicate with customers, managed crews, and took on increasing responsibility.
As they grew, so did their opportunities.
Some became crew leaders. Some became profit-sharing partners. Some built teams of their own. Several went on to become successful business owners.
One of my favorite examples is Fabio.
Years ago, Fabio was one of our top supervisors, completing more than 150 painting projects each year. Like many ambitious people, he began exploring other opportunities. He connected with a highly respected painting company that had been in business even longer than we had. The people were great. The reputation was excellent.
On paper, it looked like a smart move.
Then he compared the numbers.
By becoming an employee, Fabio realized he would be taking roughly a 40% pay cut compared to what he was earning as a profit-sharing partner with CertaPro.
That was his lightbulb moment.
He realized the magic wasn’t just painting houses.
The magic was ownership.
The magic was having the opportunity to build something, share in the success he helped create, and control his own future.
Instead of leaving, Fabio doubled down.
Eventually, he purchased his own CertaPro franchise and today is helping other painters and entrepreneurs pursue their own version of the American Dream.
His story isn’t unique.
Over the years, many of our top supervisors have gone on to start businesses, buy homes, raise families, and create opportunities for others. In fact, one of the statistics I’m most proud of is how many of our best leaders either remain with us decades later or have gone on to own businesses of their own.
That’s not turnover.
That’s success.
When you hire CertaPro Painters of the Main Line, you’re not just hiring painters.
You’re hiring people who take pride in their work, communicate with customers, care about the outcome, and have been given a path to build a better future.
The secret behind our success isn’t paint.
It’s people.
And for 35 years, helping people grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.
