Front Porch Revamp
Posted on June 1, 2020
Front porches set the tone for your entire property. Take some time to create a welcoming picture for those arriving with a front porch makeover. The small space can be updated to include furniture and accessories to host conversations in warm summer evenings.
These are inexpensive ways to update your porch with a bit of elbow grease and some garage sale finds. Incorporating your color scheme to match with your house will set your property up as stylish, thought out and put together. Here are some areas to upgrade.
1. Planters and Baskets
Adding flowers to your porch is the most natural update for spring. If your color scheme is mostly neutral, choose bright colored flowering plants. For a more colorful painting scheme on your home, consider adding greenery or neutral colored flowers. The colors can also be incorporated through the porch by adding painted planters. Get some terracotta pots for homes to your plants. Pick a coordinating color and paint the planters to match.
2. An outdoor rug
Outdoor rugs are luxurious but can be expensive and difficult to keep pristine. Rather than fight with a rug that rolls up with every gust of wind, try a painted on rug. This works especially well with wooden or concrete porches with even surfaces. You can choose to paint a regular square rug or get creative with flourishes and accents. Don’t forget the fringe!
3. Stairs and Walkways
While you’re updating your floors, don’t forget to take your stairs or walkways into consideration. Steps offer a good opportunity to get creative with color. Use floor or concrete paint to create a color scheme that works with your house. Consider painting the fronts only or an ombre look. For walkways, give your front yard a truly finished look with concrete paint.
4. Front Porch Seating
The front porch is a great place to sit back and enjoy the evening after a long day. Ad in a front porch swing or rocking chairs. Most of these are wood and can be stained or painted to match your colors and pairs with other accessories you’ve chosen.
5. Doormat
Now that you’ve added some planters of flowers and a new seating area, change up your tired welcome mat for something new. This gives the whole porch a cared-for look without any effort. Bonus points if you find one that works within you color palette.
6. Shoe Mat
While we’re heading into a summer of good weather, there is a wet spring to come. You have some convenient seating out front, add a shoe mat to store muddy, messy boots before they even get inside your doors (and bring dirt with them).
