Condition of the Home

At the time work began, the home was in the middle of a renovation with several trades working on-site simultaneously. Many areas had newly installed drywall and trim that required full priming before painting could begin.

Most of the existing doors, frames, and trim throughout the home were stained wood, which meant the project required a full conversion to a painted finish rather than a standard repaint. Additional preparation included addressing minor drywall cracks in the basement, smoothing surface inconsistencies, and sealing a water stain near the staircase skylight.

Project Involvement

This project involved painting all interior surfaces across multiple levels of the home, including walls, ceilings, trim, and doors. Work spanned both newly installed and existing materials, requiring a combination of fresh priming, detailed preparation, and full stain-to-paint conversion across all wood surfaces.

Project Challenges

One of the most significant aspects of this project was the stain-to-paint conversion across nearly every trim surface in the home. This process required proper surface preparation, adhesion priming, and multiple finish coats to ensure long-term durability and prevent failure over time. Working within an active renovation added another layer of complexity. The team coordinated closely with other contractors, maintaining a clean and organized jobsite while progressing efficiently through each space.

The home’s vaulted ceilings and detailed staircase also required additional care. Reaching heights of approximately 15 feet, the great room required specialized equipment, while the staircase involved multiple surfaces—spindles, railings, shelving, and trim—all finished in coordinated colors.

Paints & Colors Used

All coatings were selected from Benjamin Moore’s premium product line and tailored to each surface and room environment.

Wall colors included Cloud Cover in the main living areas, English Hyacinth in the primary and select basement bedrooms, and Iced Slate in the office and secondary bedroom. The laundry room cabinetry was finished in Blue Spruce, while trim, doors, and ceilings were unified in Oxford White. The staircase handrail was completed in Black Beauty as a contrasting accent.

Project Timeline

The project was completed in one week alongside an active renovation schedule, requiring careful coordination and phased execution to maintain progress without disrupting other trades.
