Home Interior Renovation with Orange Peel Texture in Austin TX
CertaPro Painters® of Austin, TX completed a full interior renovation for a residential home in Pflugerville, TX. The project focused on modernizing outdated finishes by removing aging popcorn ceilings, repairing drywall, and repainting the entire interior.
At the start of the project, the home showed clear signs of age. The ceilings featured old popcorn texture that had begun to yellow and collect dirt, giving the space a dull appearance. Walls and ceilings also had multiple long settling cracks and surface imperfections, requiring extensive drywall repair before any painting could begin. Overall, the home needed both cosmetic and structural surface improvements to achieve a modern look.
The goal was to transform the home from a dated, worn space into a clean, bright, and updated interior with a smooth, contemporary finish.
SCOPE OF THE WORK:
The project involved complete popcorn ceiling removal, drywall repair, and full interior painting. The process began by carefully wetting and scraping the popcorn texture from all ceiling surfaces, followed by debris removal and disposal.
Once the ceilings were cleared, the team applied drywall mud to float and smooth the surfaces, then finished them with a light orange peel texture for a clean, updated appearance. A full oil-based primer coat was applied to seal the surfaces and ensure proper adhesion.
The final phase included applying two coats of paint to ceilings, walls, door frames, vents, and baseboards, creating a consistent and refreshed interior throughout the home.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:
One of the main challenges of the project was managing the popcorn removal process, which requires moisture to loosen the texture. To prevent water damage, the team took extra care to mask and protect all flooring with plastic, creating a watertight barrier.
Additionally, the presence of extensive settling cracks required careful drywall taping and floating to achieve a smooth, uniform finish. Proper preparation and attention to detail ensured that all repaired areas blended seamlessly with the new texture and paint.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT & TECHNIQUIES:
The project required a combination of professional tools and techniques to achieve high-quality results. A Graco 695 paint sprayer was used for efficient and even paint application, while 6–12 inch drywall taping knives were used for floating and smoothing repaired surfaces.
A hopper texture gun was used to apply the light orange peel finish, helping create a consistent and modern ceiling texture throughout the home.
