Project Overview
In May 2026 CertaPro Painters® of Austin, TX completed an exterior restoration project for a residence in Round Rock, TX, with a primary focus on repairing and repainting the home’s elevated back porch. The home’s porch structure had developed significant wood rot that required detailed carpentry repairs before painting could begin.
The project combined wood replacement, surface preparation, caulking, priming, and painting to restore both the appearance and structural integrity of the outdoor living space.
SCOPE OF THE WORK:
The project involved removing all damaged and rotted wood materials from the porch structure and replacing them with new wood components prepared for long-term durability.
Once repairs were complete, the team caulked all necessary joints and transitions, primed repaired surfaces, and applied fresh exterior paint to create a clean, cohesive finish across the porch area.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:
One of the biggest challenges involved removing the existing damaged boards without compromising surrounding materials. Numerous nails extended through the deck flashing and into the wood, making removal difficult.
To safely remove the deteriorated boards, the team carefully bent back portions of the metal drip edge in order to access and extract the embedded nails before replacement work could proceed. This extra step required patience, precision, and experienced carpentry techniques to avoid damaging adjacent components.
