Office Building Project in Austin, TX
In June 2020, CertaPro Painters® of Austin, TX was contacted to revitalize the exterior of a nine-story office building. The structure contained a dedicated parking garage, multiple areas of exterior handrails, and two ground-to-roof stairwells.
The facility’s exterior colors and metal accent banding were outdated, creating the necessity for a full repaint and renovation of the building. The metal accents were removed and the building was thoroughly cleaned so that painting could begin.
CertaPro Painters® were equipped to handle the large-scale project with swing stage scaffolding and a coordinated effort. The refinished exterior would provide a brand new look to a featured building in the community.
Challenges
Projects of this magnitude have their own unique set of hurdles. Communication with the building administration and coordination among the team were paramount. The need for strong organization was even more pressing as refinishing efforts occurred during office hours.
One of the biggest challenges of the project was the necessity for swing stage scaffolding. Setting up and moving the scaffolding was a relatively cumbersome task, further complicated by making sure the team had access to power and water to complete their work.
CONDITIONS
- Worn Paint – The exterior paint had gone a long period of time without an update, creating the need for a few fresh coats
- Dirt Accumulation – The outside of the building also required a thorough cleaning because of the buildup of dirt and grime over the years
- Outdated Metal Accents – The red metal accent pieces were worn and needed to be removed
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
- Preparation – CertaPro’s Professionals cleaned the entirety of the building exterior before painting. The metal accent pieces were removed and screw holes were filled for a smoother surface. Extension joints were also renewed with new backer rods and caulking.
- Painting – The team repainted the exterior, using scaffolding for the high and hard-to-reach areas. The surface was coated with a Loxon primer and two coats of Loxon self-cleaning paint.

Outdated Exterior
The building's exterior contained old and worn hues along with the metal accents and signage.
Old Metal Accents
The red metal accents ran around the building and required removal to modernize its look.
Exterior Color Change
The building was repainted with a darker and more commanding finish, giving a new look to the community.
Repainted Sections
All surfaces were repainted for a uniform look around the building with the new color.
Scaffolding Work
Scaffolding was also used from the ground to paint the lower sections of the building.
