Immaculate Conception Catholic School – Silicone Paint for Bare Brick
Project Description:
When we first approached the facility, the surfaces were bare brick and the school was having moisture problems. So to prevent additional water damage, they had recently resealed the windows with a moisture-proof silicone-based caulk. There appeared to be additional moisture problems that were still unidentified after ruling out the roofing and window issues. Therefore, they wanted us to come and paint bare brick while keeping their waterproofing problems in mind.
Special Challenges:
Because silicone is not compatible with most paints, we had to use a very specific technique and product. Since school was in session, we had to work around class schedules. Additionally, the three-story building required a lift so we could access the exterior of the upper floors.
Scope of Work:
We washed the existing brick and vertical surfaces and applied 2 coats of PPG All Guard siliconized elastomeric paint at 15 mL wet. We started the project in October of 2021 and it took us four weeks to complete.
Other Technical Specs:
- Painted high traffic doors with Waterborne Alkyd Enamel
- Primed galvanized metals with XIM Bonding Primer
- Finished the metal surfaces with SherCryl for color retention
