Residential Project Highlight
Cabinet Refinishing
In this case study, we recap a cabinet painting project that took place in October of 2024 in Sandia Park, NM. We detail the highlights from this project below:
Describe the condition of the facility/surfaces at the time work began.
The kitchen cabinets were original to the home and had their original finish with normal wear and tear although some of the doors had water damage which caused gaps and cracks. Also, one drawer slider assembly had come apart and required re-assembly/repair
What did the project involve? (painting, drywall/light carpentry repairs, etc.)
- Disassembling door and drawer hardware and mapping the location of all components to ensure proper reassembly.
- Creating a ‘spray booth’ area on-premises.
- Masking the kitchen.
- Cleaning/Degreasing all surfaces to be painted
- Scuff sanding all surfaces to be painted to ensure proper primer adhesion.
- Priming with Dunn Edwards DecoPrime 1 or 2 coats.
- Finish coating with Dunn Edwards DecoGlo Urethane Modified paint. The customer wanted us to match the original color 2-3 coats.
- Repairing the broken slides.
- Reassembling all the components and assuring proper alignment.
- Removing masking and the spray booth.
- Final clean up.
