From Dark Wood to Bright White in a 5,000-Square-Foot Orchard Park Home
In May 2026, CertaPro Painters of Western New York refreshed the interior of a spacious former model home in Orchard Park, NY. With more than 5,000 square feet of open-concept living, a dramatic two-story foyer, and elegant finishes throughout, the home was already in great shape. The homeowners simply wanted a more modern look, starting with the heart of the home: a gourmet kitchen with an oversized island and granite countertops.
The natural medium-brown wood cabinets were in good condition, but the homeowners were ready for a dramatic change from dark to light. Our team refinished every cabinet door, drawer, and box in a clean white satin finish, while a second crew painted the ceilings, walls, and trim throughout the rest of the house.
PROJECT SCOPE:
To give the cabinets a smooth, even finish without disrupting the rest of the house, our cabinet painter set up a dedicated spray station inside an enclosed tent next to the garage. Every cabinet door and drawer was removed, along with all of the hardware, and taken to the tent to be sprayed. In the kitchen, the crew sealed off corners and protected the floors, walls, and granite countertops so no overspray reached the rest of the home.
Careful prep is what makes a painted cabinet finish last. We cleaned every surface and made sure it was completely dry, then scuff sanded the cabinets to break through the existing clear top coat so the primer could bond properly. After priming, the cabinets were finished in white paint with a durable satin sheen that is easy to wipe clean.
CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS:
The homeowners needed the entire interior completed within a two-week window, including the kitchen cabinets, ceilings, walls, and trim in a large home. To stay on schedule, we split the work between two coordinated teams: a three-person crew handled the walls, ceilings, and trim, while a dedicated cabinet painter focused on the kitchen. Close coordination kept both crews moving without getting in each other’s way, and the enclosed spray tent kept dust and overspray contained to the work area.
TIMELINE:
The kitchen cabinet refinishing was completed in 6 days, and the full interior project wrapped up in about 10 working days.
