Exterior House Painting in Buffalo: Siding Color Transformation
CertaPro Painters of Western New York
From Light Gray to Deep Green: Exterior Painting for a 1946 Buffalo Home
In June 2026, a three-person CertaPro Painters of Western New York crew completed a three-day exterior painting project on a single-family home in Buffalo, NY. Built in 1946 on a 5,600-square-foot lot, the home was in decent shape, but the owner had recently replaced the vinyl siding on the garage in a deep green and wanted the rest of the house to match.
That meant going from a light color to a bolder, darker one, with exact color matching and careful protection of everything that was staying white. With rain in the forecast, the crew worked longer days to finish the home on time.
PROJECT SCOPE:
Before painting, the crew gave the home a light water-based power wash to remove dirt, debris, mildew, and other contaminants that had built up over the years, taking extra time in the areas that needed it. The surfaces to be painted in a new color were protected, and everything that was not being painted at all (soffits, gutters, fascia, window trim, door trim, doors, and windows) was carefully masked off.
Extra time went into cutting in and protecting the vinyl corner trim, which was staying white, a different color from the rest of the house. The crew also took down the house numbers so they could be painted and then reinstalled, and the foundation was painted to match its current color. Because the homeowner had just had the lawn redone, the team took extra care to protect the landscaping throughout the job.
CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS:
The biggest challenge was matching the paint to the dark green of the new garage siding, so that the house and garage would look like one cohesive color scheme. Going from a light color to a dark one also required careful coverage and attention to detail. With rain forecast for the days that followed, the crew worked longer hours to complete the job in less time, so the paint could cure without weather delays.
TIMELINE:
This project took a three-person crew 3 days to complete in June 2026.
