Home Maintenance Checklist for WNY Homes

Posted on July 19, 2021

Taking some time to work on exterior house maintenance is a rewarding and satisfying way to keep your home in tip top shape. It can be a good idea to keep a maintenance schedule. Twice a year is generally a good time frame for most upkeep. Being proactive with maintenance will go a long way in preventing avoidable expenses in the long run. Homes in our service area of the greater Buffalo, NY and WNY areas should check each of these items about twice a year, work may not be needed each year for all items below, depending on how much wear and tear your property has.

Keep a checklist for the following areas:

Roof and gutter inspectiongutter check

It is important to inspect your roof and gutters regularly to make sure there are no problem areas and issues that could lead to leaking or clogging. This is one area that you really want to stay on top of with maintenance or it will open a whole gamut of cascading problems of increasingly greater significance and expense. Mold and mildew can cause damage and discoloring to roof tiles and can also be a health hazard. Using a pressure washer can do wonders in this regard. Examining gutters for built up debris, dirt, and leaves will prevent water clogging and extensive damage to your house.

Western New York’s fall season can cause gutters to fill up and clog, its a good idea to look over your gutters in spring and fall.

Deck repair, cleaning, and stainingdeck staining

Over time a wooden deck will need to have boards and screws replaced. Take some time to pressure wash it and smooth over areas that are splintered. Sanding your deck will prepare it nicely for staining which will keep it looking fresh and in good shape for years to come.

Deck maintenance can be a lot of work, if you are looking for professional help we offer deck painting and staining services to the greater Buffalo, NY service area.

Landscape maintenance and trimminglandscaping screen

An unkempt yard is not a good look and can cause damage to your house. Take some time to trim and clean up overgrown and dead areas. It is a good idea to keep at least a foot of space between your plant life and you home to prevent potential damage to your siding and other areas.

Driveway repairdriveway sealing

Fill in and patch cracks and chipping. Resealing will increase longevity, protect from the elements, and enhance its attractiveness. Driveways may need a coating as often as once every 2 years, if you notice the blacktop fading or cracks forming, its probably a good time to have the driveway resealed.

Patios and pathwayspatio pressure washing

Keep up with these areas by scrubbing and pressure washing. Your outdoor patio and pathways deteriorate over time and can occur more rapidly if you live in areas that are more prone to extreme fluctuations in temperature. Regular maintenance will keep them looking new and avoid expensive repairs.
