Popular Colors for Painted Brick Surfaces

Posted on May 28, 2019

Just because you have a brick home doesn’t mean you are committed to its natural color. There has been a trend to paint brick or choose vibrant colors to match with the brick for the exterior of your home. Here are popular colors for painted brick exterior surfaces.

Sometimes brick is less than stunning on the outside of your house. If the bricks have lost their luster, or never really had it, you have a lot of options to add color to the brick portion of your home. Change the color with a perfectly painted solution. Many people choose to stick with more natural hues, but there is no rule that you can’t choose something bolder.

White

White bricks are a great choice because it’s a sophisticated feel on a traditional brick. The texture of the mortar makes the white have some style to it. You can also bring white brick inside in the form of a fireplace. White brick exteriors are a popular choice when paired with another color for trim or the remainder of the exterior.

Warm White

Rather than stark white, which can be hard to keep up, try an off white or cream color for your bricks. The tinges of warmth in it create an aged look and offers a bit of natural color to show through. If you want to have more natural red come through, a lot of homeowners choose to do a whitewash or limewash treatment rather than traditional paint. It’s a weathered and low maintenance look, meaning you can go between paintings longer.

Gray

Think a bright white will make your house too bright? Try going gray on your bricks. The softer grays are a great neutral alternative to white but retain that same classic styling. Darker gray pairs well with white or black accent colors. Bring in something more vibrant for a bolder choice statement trim.

Work with the Brick

Many homeowners don’t want to cover the natural beauty of the brick on their home, but run into trouble when trying to pair it with another color. Elements like windows, doors, trim and more can easily trip up the best colorists, when it comes in conjunction with a brick base. Most bricks are a deep color, so choosing a color with it in a neutral tone is recommended.

No matter if you are dealing with exterior stucco with brick base or a completely brick home with a wraparound porch, you’ll want to pay particular attention to the color in the brick. While some bricks are a deep red, some are more brown and some seem to be a washed out combination of the two. Here are the recommended color combinations to work with in conjunction with brick.

  • Soft yellow with cream
  • Charcoal with light gray
  • Sage green with taupe
  • Rich green with gray
  • Forest green with black
