Exterior Painting Prep Guide

While we do our best to stick to your scheduled start date, outside factors such as weather conditions or unexpected delays on prior projects may cause changes. If anything affects your start date, rest assured — our team will reach out to you with updates as soon as possible.
For Exterior Projects – Preparing for Your Painting Crew
To help us keep your project moving efficiently and safely, please take a few moments to complete the following before our team arrives:
Trim Foliage
Please cut back bushes and shrubs at least 12 inches away from your home’s exterior where painting or repairs will take place. Vines near or on the house should be removed if possible. We’ll do our best to work around any remaining plants, but full coverage cannot be guaranteed in those areas.
Secure Windows
Close all windows tightly before pressure washing begins. If you’ve experienced water leaks around doors or windows in the past, let your Job Site Supervisor know. You may also want to place towels inside near those areas, just in case.
Clear Decks & Porches
Remove small items, furniture, and fabrics from decks and porches. We’ll only pressure wash decks if they are included in the scope of staining work, as washing painted decks can cause peeling.
Prep Window Screens
Please unlatch window screens from the inside so we can remove them from outside. Storm windows will only be removed if not sealed or glued shut—we won’t force them off to avoid damage.
Plan for Pets
Keep pets away from work areas for their safety and ours. Let your Job Site Supervisor know about gates, latches, or any special pet-related instructions.
Ensure Property Access
Make sure we can access all relevant areas, including backyards and gates. Unlock gates and provide codes or keys if necessary.
Water & Electricity Access
We’ll need access to outdoor water spigots and power outlets. Please show your Job Site Supervisor where these are located.
Parking Arrangements
Let us know in advance if parking is limited or restricted in your area, especially for downtown or high-traffic locations.

HOA Requirements
If your neighborhood is managed by an HOA, double-check any rules or restrictions about exterior color changes or project approvals before work begins.
What to Expect from CertaPro Painters® of Tulsa, OK
When you hire us for your exterior project, here’s what our crew will take care of:
Furniture Moving: We’ll carefully move large patio or porch furniture away from the work area, grouping it in a safe, designated spot. (Some items may be too heavy to move.)
Protective Coverings: Any furniture left near the workspace will be covered using plastic sheeting or painter’s drop cloths.
Furniture Reset: Once the project is complete, we’ll return any moved furniture to its original spot.
Cleanup: Our team will remove all trash, empty paint cans, and leftover materials from your property.
Leftover Paint: Extra paint will be labeled and left with you for future touch-ups or reference.

Walkthrough & Project Communication – CertaPro Painters® of Tulsa, OK
Your satisfaction is our top priority. Here’s how we’ll keep you informed and ensure everything meets your expectations:
On-Site Communication: Your Job Site Supervisor (the lead painter) will be available to answer questions throughout the project and will provide regular updates.
Completion Estimate: You’ll be informed of the anticipated project completion date and time by the Supervisor or our Production Associate.
Final Walkthrough: Once work is completed, the Supervisor will walk the job with you to review the results and address any concerns.
Payment Process: After the walkthrough, we’ll ask you to sign off on the project and submit your final payment to the Supervisor.
Please plan to be available at the end of the project so we can complete the walkthrough together.
