In May 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Tulsa, OK partnered with The University of Tulsa to restore and refresh their North Campus Drill Lab, a unique research facility featuring a fully enclosed drilling rig.
The facility is used by both engineering students and global oil and gas companies, making appearance and durability a top priority.
Our commercial team was tasked with painting the building exterior and rig components using high-performance coatings tailored to industrial conditions.
Despite challenges including aging asbestos siding, rust, and high Oklahoma winds, the project was completed in just 9 days—half the estimated timeline—thanks to strategic weekend work and expert equipment handling.
The result was a polished, vibrant finish that reflects the prestige of the university and the innovation within the facility.

Preparation & Challenges
Aging Asbestos Siding: The exterior hadn’t been painted in over 30 years, requiring careful prep and specialized techniques.
Rust on Metal Components: Addressed with appropriate primers and surface treatments.
Weather Conditions: High winds required careful planning for safety and coating control.
Overspray Prevention: To avoid overspray on nearby parked cars, the team worked over the weekend when the parking area was clear.
Results
The project was completed in 9 days—50% faster than the original estimate—thanks to efficient crew scheduling, advanced equipment, and professional execution.
