Paint Colors for Small Rooms
Posted on June 19, 2020
Adding color to a small room can be a challenging task. Particular shades were traditionally off the table. Vivid and dark options were thought to make the walls feel as though they are encroaching into the space even further. Our color stylists have picked their favorite paint colors for small rooms.
Purple
Loud and bright colors like purple were out of the realm of possibilities in small rooms. In reality, a large room in an in-your-face bright plum would be too much. The color is perfectly suited to a smaller wallspace. By limiting the use of the color you get a good pop without overdoing it and overwhelming eyes.
Gunmetal Gray
By the same token, the smaller the space the more bold you can go with colors. Using a deep, dark gray is sophisticated while remaining cozy.
Teal
Painting a small room a vivid dark color like teal can allow shadow to be your friend. The deep teal camouflages the fact that it’s tiny. The blues in the color create a false perception of depth.
Beige
Classics are classic for a reason. Beige is a good departure from white that acts just as neutral. This color will work for those who want a neutral, easy color that doesn’t include a bright, bold color.
Blue-Green
Misty blue-green is a beachy classic that is easy to work with. Using it as a backdrop to your smaller room gives the airy feeling of a bigger square footage.
Coffee
Using a deep, dark brown enhances the cozy, snuggly factor in the room. Using a brown with a hint of gray will make an intimate space.
Pearl Gray
Gray can be dull and cold. Choose a pearl gray to give the paint a luminous glow. During the day, the color will fluctuate with shadows and light.
Super White
White makes the walls retreat, giving small square footage an advantage. Choose a white that is warm without undertones of blue or green to keep the room light and airy.
Soft Yellow
Pale yellow is perfect for small rooms dedicated to children. It’s colorful and fun without looking childish. As a cheerful color, you won’t feel the need to hide this room from the rest of the house.
Peacock
Peacock blue is bright and bold. Blues are naturally relaxing while brights give the room personality. Choose a blue that includes a bit of shimmer to bounce light around the room.
Blush
Soft pinks are a welcomed warm color for a tiny room. While darker pinks and reds can overpower the room, pale pink is perfect to cheer up the walls.
Sage
Light, mossy green is a great way to bring nature into the space, even if it lacks windows. The nod to foliage outside will remind you on the cold days of winter that spring will come again.
Off-White
Small areas in your home that have lots of windows will not need a lot of color. Instead of a bright, go with warm off-white. The color keeps the room airy while staying really neutral. This is perfect for outcoves or breakfast nooks. You can set the room apart with color while allowing the eye sight line to remain comfortable.
Sky Blue
Sky blue gives a dreamy atmosphere to even a tiny room. The soft shade creates a relaxing space that feels bigger than it is.
Antique White
White is a go-to color for small spaces. Avoid pure white which feels cold and clinical and opt instead for antique white which offers warmer shades to create an inviting space.
