Refinishing of Flaking Deck in Healdsburg
A homeowner in Healdsburg, CA contacted us to renew and refresh their beautiful deck.
At the time work began, portions of the deck were experiencing failing and the current stain was flaking. The current stain was very old, proving to be a bit of a challenge to remove.
To prep, we applied a stripping agent to the old stain. We then scrubbed and pressure washed the deck to begin the removal process. We used a pressure washer techinique that ensures the surface of the wood was not marred or flawed. Next we sprayed a brightening agent on the surface of the newly exposed wood to rid the deck of any discoloration. The wood was then allowed to dry prior to sanding to remove all residual stain and to prepare the wood for stain penetration. Finally, a penetrative oil-based stain that is designed to not peel or crack was then applied and allowed to fully recondition the surface of the wood. The stain used utilizes a combination of drying and non-drying oils to give the wood two layers of protection.
Our team successfully completed refinishing three decks, stairs, railing and two retaining walls within 1 week in March 2022. The owner was very pleased with the results, see the completed project images below!
