Restoring Character to a Classic Seattle Craftsman
Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood is full of charming older homes, each with their own unique personality and history. In June 2023, CertaPro Painters® of Seattle, WA had the privilege of restoring one such home—a beautiful craftsman that hadn’t been painted in over two decades.
The new homeowners wanted to bring back the original architectural details, which had faded into the background over time. They were incredibly thoughtful with their color choices and committed to highlighting the home’s classic charm. The transformation was dramatic, breathing new life into this historic structure and bringing joy to its owners and neighbors alike.

Scope of Work:
This project focused on restoring a classic craftsman home that had not been painted in over 20 years. Our team of four painters spent three full days scraping away layers of failing paint from the siding and trim to prepare the surface for a fresh finish. In addition to the extensive prep work, we replaced several window frames and siding boards as needed. After applying a primer base, two coats of paint were applied with extreme attention to detail. The homeowners chose a bold and meaningful palette: Sherwin Williams Basil for the base, Creamy for the trim, and Moscow Midnight for the accents—highlighting the home’s architectural features that had previously been painted to blend in.
Challenges:
While no special equipment was required, working on an older home always brings surprises. Fortunately, all surfaces were accessible by ladder, and our experienced team was able to complete light carpentry repairs as they encountered them.
Results:
The home was fully transformed with a bold, refreshed look that honored its original design while infusing new personality. The owners were thrilled with the craftsmanship and care taken throughout the process, and the final product is a true standout in the neighborhood.
