The team was tasked with restoring a historic cedar shingle home that had not been painted in years and demanded a thoughtful, patient approach. From fragile raked shingles to aging window glazing, every surface needed hands-on attention.

The home’s aging paint was in significant decline, with most of it detaching during the prep phase. Our team spent over 125 man hours carefully hand-scraping raked cedar shingles to preserve the integrity of the natural wood. No harsh techniques were used to avoid damage, which made the process highly labor-intensive but essential for long-term durability. Window restoration included full reglazing and frame replacements where necessary, bringing the home’s efficiency and aesthetics up to date.
Challenges:
The fragility of the cedar shingles required a gentle and methodical approach, making prep work slower but more effective. The home’s original windows posed additional hurdles, as some required full replacement while others were reglazed by hand. These complexities were met with careful craftsmanship and attention to historical detail.
Results:
CertaPro Painters® of Seattle, WA successfully revitalized the cedar shingle siding and restored the home’s trim, railings, and windows. The home now features Sherwin Williams Green Onyx siding, Casa Blanca trim, and bold Crabby Apple accents—offering a stunning transformation that protects the structure and honors its architectural legacy.
