The Challenge at Hand

The Hilton Garden Inn’s pool area featured a combination of old painted metal and newly installed powder-coated metal sections. Unfortunately, the new sections did not match the older metal, creating an inconsistent and unappealing look. Additionally, some of the existing metalwork showed signs of wear, including rust and peeling paint, which detracted from the overall appearance of the pool area. The hotel was also in the process of adding metal awnings, making it crucial to achieve a uniform finish across all metal surfaces.

Our Approach

To tackle these issues, our first step was a thorough cleaning. We power washed all metal surfaces to remove dirt, grime, and loose paint, creating a clean slate for the subsequent steps. After cleaning, we addressed areas with peeling paint and rust. These spots were scraped and spot primed with a rust-inhibiting, direct-to-metal primer. This preparation was crucial to ensure the new paint would adhere properly and provide lasting protection against the elements.

The powder-coated metal posed a unique challenge. To prepare it for painting, we scuffed sanded the surface to enhance the adhesion of the primer and paint. This step was essential to ensure that the new paint would bond effectively with the powder-coated finish.

Following the preparation, we applied a full coat of primer to all metal surfaces. This step was followed by two coats of high-quality paint, applied with an airless spray gun. This technique allowed for a smooth, uniform coat that would stand up to the harsh Arizona sun and frequent use of the pool area.
