What to Do When You Choose the Wrong Paint Color
Posted on May 28, 2019
You have painted your room and replaced all of the hardware. The furniture is back in the room and the worst happens. Here’s what to do when you choose the wrong paint color.
It was perfect, until it wasn’t. So what do you do now that the color is up and wrong? Here are some options to try to correct your painting faux paus.
Mixing
When you crack open your paint can at home, the color could be mixed wrong. If you realize this before you begin to paint, it’s a good idea to seal it back up and head to the paint store.
Lighting
If the paint is on the walls and seems off, it’s a good idea to try to adjust the lighting before you freak out. Dimmer switches, ‘warm’ light bulbs and natural lighting make a big difference with the hue.
Accessories
Your furniture can give your walls a different look depending on the colors on the wall and in the furniture. Use cushions, throws and rugs to make the wall paint take on the hue you’re looking for. Bring a paint sample when you go shopping for them and try to use natural lighting or lighting close to yours at home.
Faux Paint Techniques
Try adding a faux texturing technique to the paint. Choose a warmer or cooler color to paint texture over the original and give it the look you were hoping for. The dabbing keeps the original color and allows the new color to enhance it.
Repaint
As the last resort, if there is nothing you can do to keep from wincing when looking at your walls, repaint. Be sure the new color you choose is the one you really want. Test it on poster board and look at it in various lighting and areas of the room. This will help you avoid further heartbreak with your paint.
