What Do I Need To Know Before Painting?

If you’re getting ready to start thinking about a painting project, you probably have a lot of questions. Below are some of the most common questions we get from customers.

Q. How much will it cost to paint my house?

A. There are many factors that go into this, but it typically falls between $2.50 per square foot and $3.50 per square foot.

Q. Is there anything that can change the cost of a project after a customer receives a quote?

A. Anything that is impossible to see/know prior to starting a job. Wallpaper removal is one such thing, as layers and age may take more time on some than others.

Q. How much paint do you need to paint a home?

A. Again, entirely dependent on size and also how old the paint is that you currently have on the house. Some houses drink up the paint due to age. Other newer ones may need less.

Q. When is the best time to paint?

A. For exteriors, March through as late as November. For interiors, anytime.

Q. How often should people paint their homes?

A. A quality paint job could last 15 years, however, there are factors like weather, desire to update to sell, etc. that may dictate an earlier paint job.

Q. How long does it take to paint a home?

A. Again, depends on size and complexity, but a range would be 2-5 days.

Q. How will my project be managed?

A. There will be a head painter on the crew. Additionally, our sales associates will be checking in during the process to ensure all is going well.

Q. Can the painters work alone in my house?

A. Yes, we work with the customer regarding their comfort level with us working in their house alone.

Q. How many paint colors are included in your typical proposal?

A. Up to three, with a small fee for additional colors.

Q. Is there anything the homeowner should do to prep for your crew to arrive?

A. Exteriors: trim trees and bushes 24” away from walls, move all objects away from walls. Interiors: move furniture to the center of the room, empty closets, remove switch plates, remove small and fragile objects, wall decorations, drapes, and blinds.
