Your Interior Spring Home Makeover Checklist

Posted on March 4, 2020

Spring is a time of refreshing, outside and in. Warmer weather and more sunshine are rejuvenating and we want our homes to show that too. It won’t be long and you’ll want to have friends and family over for spring get-togethers. Before that happens, here is your interior spring home makeover checklist.

Buy a New Rug

A quick way to update a room and bring together a color scheme is with a new rug. Because there are so many styles available, pick one that works with your current wall and furniture colors, or use a new rug as inspiration for an all-over makeover. Textures, patterns and style can all up the ante in the room.

Reframe Your Photos and Art

It’s easy to get stuck in one simple style of frame. For an artist’s gallery feel, hit local thrift stores or garage sales and gather the appropriate sized frames for your current art. The haphazard mix of styles and materials can be easily brought together into a cohesive unit with one color of paint. Don’t feel limited to chrome, black or gold, go wild. This spring painting project lends itself to vibrant teals, bright yellows and farmhouse reds.

Create a Statement Ceiling

Ceilings are the often forgotten fifth walls in a room. More often than not, when a room is painted, very little attention is paid to the ceiling. Get creative and paint a sky on your child’s ceiling or opt for a more plain barely there blue. The easy change will have big impact in the room and friends and family are sure to rave about it.

Buy or Repurpose Organizational Pieces

Clutter is never a good look. Go through your piles and make decisions to donate, trash or keep the items. Once you’ve cleared out some of the clutter, invest in or repurpose organizational items you have. Baskets, boxes, tubs and other items can be added to the room in bright pops of color adding both style and storage.

Swap Out Your Headboard

An old headboard can be a drag on your bedroom. Simple changes to this main piece of furniture can create a whole new look for your master bedroom. To get a new look, don’t feel obligated to buy. Adding a new color of paint to existing furniture can give you the change you need. If your headboard is in poor condition, ditch it. There are tons of well-executed headboards online made of nothing but paint. All it takes is a creative hand.

Add Color to Your Kitchen Cabinets

If your kitchen is in need of some love, you could be scared of the cost. Rather than purchasing new, custom kitchen cabinets, try some paint. This is a big project and is best completed by a crew. Even so, the cost to have them come in and give your cabinets a new color will be far less than the cost to replace them. If you want a complete remodel, add some new paint to the remaining walls. The room will be brand new.

Get Your Books in Order

Books make a statement that you are intelligent and educated until they overflow the bookcase and collect in piles around the room. Clear out the superfluous books and get the collection under control. Once you have space to move around the bookshelves, consider painting a pop of color only on the backside of the shelves. This will give you a peek-a-boo effect over the top of your library. It adds style to your seemingly growing collection.
