Finding Your Interior Design Inspiration

Posted on September 10, 2020

Style is very personal, and whether we realize it or not, we each have our own unique one. While you might not know what that is, if you’re about to embark on the journey of redesigning a space, it might be the right time to figure out your style.

If you’ve been recently tasked with redecorating a space with no clue how to start, it can be a little overwhelming. But one of the first things you can do is define the style you identify most with and from there you can begin searching for your interior design inspiration. Here are a few to get you started.

Contemporary Style

Do you like simplicity? Then this style might be for you. Following a stripped-down concept of “less is more” contemporary design will offer a clean and elegant feel that will be your haven from the havoc of the outside world. There is unity and cohesiveness in the design, allowing little room for cluttered elements that may disrupt the harmony of a room.

Modern Style

Drawing from similar attributes as contemporary, a modern style favors simplicity. One of the tenets of modern design is minimalism. This follows the philosophy that open spaces allow for clearer minds and creativity, and ensure that what matters most to you is not obscured by excess.

Eclectic Style

If there is “less is more” then this is the exact opposite. As the definition of the word suggests, an eclectic style is one that showcases a little bit of everything. For this kind of decor, you may be more inclined to put your personality on display. Everything from travel souvenirs to childhood mementos and antique finds can showcase all the things you love and welcome guests to get to really know you.

Rustic Style

Whether inspired by the European countryside or the American South, this style always finds a way to preserve pieces of history in modern times. Farmhouse design elements are ever-present in this style as they evoke warmth, a connection with the outdoors, and simpler times.

Industrial Style

If paired with the right elements, this style will evoke a vibe of industry and cleanliness. Exposed beams, unfinished metal shelving, and neutral color schemes will infuse even the smallest space with a classic urban vibe.

There are plenty of other styles, and oftentimes, you will find you like different elements from various ones. It’s perfectly alright to combine these into a style all your own. After all, it is your home. Whatever that may be, make sure you have fun with it and don’t box yourself into a design plan you don’t absolutely love.

Once you narrow down a few styles you like, you can begin looking for interior design inspiration. For any help with renovations or selecting the right colors to fit your style, schedule a free estimate with the experts at Certa Pro.
