Cost Effective Headboard Ideas

Posted on June 25, 2020

Headboards are not cheap and for most of us, we only invest in one because it is the “adult” thing to do. Not having a headboard is considered juvenile and most people believe the no headboard look should be left in college. If you are trying to save money and don’t see the point in investing in an over-priced headboard we completely understand. Luckily, there are ways to give the illusion that a headboard is there even though it’s not. Keep reading for some cost-effective unique ideas!

Go Thrifting! – This is a great first option if you want an actual headboard. You will find some for significantly cheaper than you would if you bought a new one. You can easily fix it up with some paint.

Use a Textile or Blanket – This is such an easy way to give the illusion of a headboard. It is as simple as nailing it into the wall above the bed. Just make sure it is the same size as the bed or a little longer. You can also hang a rod above the bed and then drape the textile or blanket over it.

Paint the Bottom Half of the Wall – Painting the bottom half of the wall a different color gives the illusion of a headboard.

Use Plywood – This is a great option because you have the creative freedom to make it look exactly how you want it to.

Stackable Cubes – Placing stackable cubes behind your bed gives you a headboard along with significantly more storage.

Utilize Old Shutters – If you happen to have old shutters laying around or you find them at a thrift store put them to use! Secure them to the wall behind your bed and this will instantly give your room a farmhouse-chic vibe.
