Commercial Case Study
York JCC Pool
The York JCC creates opportunities for everyone, inspires relationships, builds a community of well-being, and enhances Jewish communal life. They provide fitness, education, cultural and aquatic opportunities along with a supportive, inclusive and welcoming environment for all.
Our team was contracted by York JCC in May 2022 to participate in the full renovation of their indoor Aquatics Center. This renovation involved multiple trades and months of planning. CertaPro Painters was contacted to clean, prep and paint the rusted metal ceiling with trusses and freshen-up the CMU block walls around the main pool and 10-person whirpool and the water-damaged wood siding around the sauna area prior to the rest of the tile work being completed.
Due to the slope of the pool, ceiling height, and fact no lift nor scaffolding could not be used in the pool itself, work had to completed from the narrow pool deck. A 45-foot articulating lift, compressed air, and extension poles were used to clean, prime, and paint the entire ceiling, but not before all existing new tile work in the pool and around the pool edge as well items on the ceiling and walls such as lights, vents, signage, handrails, etc., were covered.
To further complicate things, the lift could only be run the middle of the deck due to the addition of a new state-of-the-art drain system and cover which ran around entire perimeter of the deck. For structural reasons, the lift had to remain approximately 2 feet from edge of the pool at all times. Care had to be taken with each lift move and floor protection was used. Lastly, the crew was given a 10-day window to complete the work.
Overall, a crew of two completed the ceiling in 3 days and a crew of four completed the walls in 4 days, in time for the last phase of tile work. York JCC staff were pleased with the outcome of the ceiling and how the rust was treated. They like the new walls and line striping as well as the color of the newly stained wood siding around the sauna. The facility now has an updated appearance which was completed in time for York JCC Aquatics Center’s Grand Opening in July 2022.
