Commercial Case Study
Schuylkill River Greenways
Problem To Be Solved:
Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area exists to connect residents, visitors and communities to the Schuylkill River and the Schuylkill River Trail.
The Company approached CertaPro Painters in April 2021 for a Bridge Project located near West Reading. The 50-foot long metal bridge situated 20-30 feet over water was weathered naturally and covered in moss and debris. The customer wanted the bridge to be cleaned and coated in a “bold” to enhance the look.
Problem Solver Solution:
Due to the location, height and bridge restrictions, a 66’ foot lift was brought in to access the exterior side of the metal bridge. During the project, the lift had to be relocated to the other side of the bridge by the lift company so that both ends of the bridge could be reached safely. Additionally, there was no access to water on-site; therefore, a 250-gallon water tank was filled off-site and brought to the location and a special pump used to pressure wash all metal surfaces.
After prep and cleaning, the bridge floor had to be covered for protection and the metal railings on both sides of the road were coated using Sherwin Williams Marine & Protective Coating Macropoxy 646-100 and Acrolon 218 HS Polyurethane Coating – Color SW 6868 “Real Red”. The paint coating was not applied with a sprayer, but instead brushed on by hand.
Final Result:
Overall, the project took 3 days. In the end, the customer was very pleased with the final result and liked the bright red color they had chosen.
