Chesterbrook Academy provides early education for preschoolers and toddlers in Exton, PA. They approached us in December 2022 to update the paint and repair drywall throughout the school. The facility was in good condition, but a paint job was certainly overdue. The walls were in need of maintenance and some repairs. The trim was clearly worn after several years of repeated traffic from teachers and students. In addition the design and color scheme was very dated including green carpets on the walls up to about 3 feet on the walls.

The main goal of the project was to freshen up the appearance and to protect against further wear and tear on the property. We also had to remove the dated wallpaper from the lobby and the green carpets from the majority of the facility. When the carpet was removed there were large areas of walls that needed a full resurfacing and holes as large as 6 inches in diameter that had to be repaired. We used Benjamin Moore’s Ben eggshell on the walls which covered beautifully and we applied Benjamin Moore’s Scuff-X semi-gloss trim paint to protect the doors, frames, windows, baseboards, chair rails and other trim from the day-to-day traffic and activity of toddlers and preschoolers.

The biggest challenge was working around the schedule of a very busy early education facility and the coming holiday season. The crews had to work after 5 PM each day and each classroom had to be set up for painting and then be put back together to be in use the following morning. In addition, there was extensive drywall repair and we were converting the natural wood trim to fully painted trim. We had to use low odor and low VOC paints so as to not cause disruptions and discomfort for the occupants the next day.

To make sure the drywall repairs looked as smooth as possible we utilized the Festool drywall sander attachment that greatly sped up the work of smoothing out the drywall while minimizing clean-up due to its advanced dust extraction technology.

Overall, a crew completed the project in fifteen days. The school staff were pleased with the outcome. The school now has an updated look and is ready for the holiday season.
