When you choose the wrong roller, the paint won’t roll onto the surface well enough to give you the finished look you’re imagining. The Best Paint Rollers for Exterior Painting Projects

The following are the different types and sizes of paint rollers you have to choose from when painting the outside of your home. Knowing the degree of smoothness of the exterior of your home can help you greatly when trying to identify the right one for you.

Rollers with a Thick Nap

Thick rollers have a 3/4″ nap, and they should be used on rough surfaces. They can get into crevices, which makes them great surfaces such as stucco.

Medium Nap Rollers

These rollers’ nap is 3/8″ and they perform best on medium rough surfaces. They simply don’t have the depth to get into really deep crevices, but still have enough to do a good job when you do have some roughness, such as with wood or vinyl surfaces.

Thin Nap Rollers

These have a 1/4″ nap or a foam one. These are best only for smooth surfaces. They simply glide over surfaces, so any roughness will not get painted as well.

What Roller Size Is Best for Exterior Painting

Size matters when it comes to the rollers you choose to use for exterior painting. Longer rollers cover more area, so they allow you to work faster. This is perfect for larger homes – just remember to choose the right nap.
