Exterior Painting

How Much Will It Cost To Paint My Home’s Exterior?

Posted on May 24, 2021

Painting the exterior of your home is not as simple as just slapping a fresh coat of paint on your siding. There is a lot of preparation that goes into a paint job. Each home is unique and will require different types of paint and a different number of coats (even including houses that are built by the same builder). Getting a new look for your home is important, but you also want a paint job that will outlast the wear and tear of weather throughout the years.

When it comes to house painting projects, you get what you pay for. When looking for a painter, consider what brand of paint they’re using, that they are painting for longevity, and that they are prepping the outside of your home adequately for a painting project.

Here are some factors that may impact the price of your exterior painting project:

  1. The condition of your home’s exterior. If there are any gaps between siding or any existing paint that is chipping or peeling off, repairs will need to be done to ensure that surfaces are paintable.
  2. The kind of surfaces that will be painted. Bare brick or stucco will soak paint up. Rougher surfaces need different materials and applications of paint that may slow painting down.
  3. The land your home is built on, and the height of your home. Steep hills on the side of your home may make it harder to place a ladder. Additionally, the more surface area, the more paint will be needed to cover that area.
  4. The colors of your exterior. If you adding more than one color, it will require more time and materials to apply them.
  5. The number of surfaces that will be painted. Adding more sides of your home to your project means it will take longer and require more materials to complete. This includes any windows and/or porches that may require repairs and painting.

Each home is different, which can make determining the price of an exterior painting project difficult. Luckily, CertaPro Painters of Orland Park offer free remote and in-person estimates.
