Removing and Preventing Graffiti

You come up to your property, and you can’t believe your eyes: someone has spray painted all over the exterior. You’re mad, confused, and ready to make it all go away as soon as possible.
At CertaPro Painters® of Needham, we receive calls from people just like you who have experienced a situation such as this one. These people are in a panic because they have a business to run, and they can’t do that with graffiti outside of their store, office, etc.
The good news is that we do have experience removing AND preventing graffiti with our high powered solvents, equipment, and coatings.
How We Remove Graffiti from Exteriors
The first step is to clean the surface. We use graffiti removal products that are known to work quickly without threatening the safety of our workers. Many of the solvents in hardware stores are highly dangerous, so if you decide to do this yourself, please be careful. This job really is best left to professionals.
Repainting the Surface
Many times, graffiti paint damages the walls to the point that the only way to make it look good again is to repaint it. After we power wash the area, we’ll continue to remove the graffiti with good old fashion elbow grease and a wire brush. Once that’s done, we’ll go ahead and repaint the area to make it look brand new again.
Preventing Repeat Graffiti Problems
In addition to making the problem go away, we use anti-graffiti coatings to keep people from doing it again. There are two types of anti-graffiti coatings:
- Sacrificial Coating
- This offers a clear-coat barrier over the surface for protection. If someone were to spray paint it again, all you need to do is power wash it to remove the paint. This is much easier then using solvents, scrubbing and then repainting.
- Permanent Coating
- This type of anti-graffiti coating is clear but it’s like magic because the paint will not adhere to it. This means no matter how much paint is put on it, removing it is simply done with a wipe of a cloth.
