McHenry Outdoor Theater
Commercial Case Study
McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry County, IL
The McHenry Outdoor Theater in eastern McHenry County was in need of extensive carpentry repair and repainting. Due to improperly displaced water from the roof lines, portions of the underlying plywood were bubbling and cracking, and the paint was failing.
Our expert CertaPro commercial team evaluated the damage and created a plan to tackle this massive project. Then over the course of 8 days the team worked to replace crucial plywood, repaint upper and lower portions of the movie screen structure, and bring the community theater to a like-new shine.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
The concrete structure of the movie screen was in solid condition. However, due to improperly displaced water from the roof line, some of the paint near the bottom was failing. The sign of the theater was spotted and worn. In addition to refreshing the sign and bottom of the structure, our team was also tasked with repairing and repainting the side wings of the movie screen, where the water damage was prevalent.
The side wings are constructed of 4’x8’x3/8″ plywood. The plywood was delaminating, bubbling, and cracking, and the paint was also failing. After assessing the damage our team planned for how to complete the project.
CHALLENGES:
This was a labor intensive job involving lots of difficult carpentry and working at high elevations. Our team tore off and replaced 36 sheets of plywood, as well as soffit and fascia/trim. The work spanned 16 feet of elevation all the way up to 100 feet off the ground.
The safest way to tackle this project was with a 125′ boom lift. An additional challenge was the limiting size of the lift basket – 3’x8′ dimensions – which restricted the number of plywood sheets we could raise up to only three at a time.
THE FINISHED PRODUCT:
Despite the massive scale and the magnitude of carpentry involved, our team worked efficiently and professionally to get the job done in a timely manner. The final product a crisp white movie theater screen that can be enjoyed by the community for years to come.
