Frequently Asked Questions for Residential Painting Projects
We DO painting every day, but for our customers, we understand it may be something you only do every few years. Our goal is to make the entire process as smooth and convenient as possible. We are happy to help answer any questions you have. Below is a list of our most frequently asked questions.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, we carry General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation Insurance. Copies of our insurance are available upon request.
Are certain colors more expensive?
It can depend on the brand or type of grade paint you want to use, such as Sherwin Williams Designer colors. Most of our Sherwin-Williams paints are inexpensive and affordable.
Can you help me choose colors?
Yes, we can make certain recommendations based on trends we see, we can also make color samples available, and we can put you in touch with a color consultant that can offer additional help.
Will I receive a written quote?
Certainly! CertaPro Painters ensures that every promise we make will be documented in writing and included in your contract prior to commencing the project. Our goal is to offer homeowners a comprehensive estimate, which will be emailed to you during or at the very least on the same day as the estimate.
I’m ready to hire CertaPro Painters, now what?
Once you have made the decision to engage CertaPro Painters’ services, we will kindly request your signature. Shortly thereafter, we will reach out to you to verify the job particulars and collaborate on scheduling, taking into consideration both your availability and ours. At this point, we can discuss and finalize a start date for your project, typically within a two-week timeframe or even sooner. If you require assistance with color choices, we encourage you to seek guidance now, as we will require the selected colors before the project commencement date.
How long will my painting project take?
The duration of the project varies based on the complete scope of work, level of preparation, crew size assigned to the project, and weather. Your sales consultant can give you a pretty good idea when we complete the estimate. We strive to provide a transparent timeline of the length of the project, as we know customers prefer not to go over a weekend.
What hours do your painters work?
This varies by crew but we communicate that with you and work around your schedule as well.
Do I need to do any landscaping before the painters arrive?
We will provide you with specific guidelines regarding plant and hedge trimming. As a general rule, we typically recommend keeping them trimmed approximately 8-12 inches away from the home. However, during the estimate, we will have a detailed discussion with you to address any unique considerations for your property. Each home is unique, and our aim is to ensure we have sufficient space to apply the paint accurately. It’s important to note that for interior projects, no landscaping adjustments are necessary.
Do I need to be home when the painters are working?
We often paint when people are gone – even on vacation sometimes. For Exteriors, it’s common to not be home.
How will my project be managed?
Most of our paint crews consist of 2-3 painters including a Job Site Supervisor. The JSS will be onsite during your entire project and will communicate updates with you daily, be able to answer questions and make sure we are fulfilling all promises made in the contract. If you have any questions during your project, please contact any member of our team.
Do you do Carpentry or Wood Repair?
For almost every exterior wood house we’re doing carpentry.
What if I wish to add additional work not originally included?
If you decide to add on any additional work, please let your Job Site Supervisor or your Sales consultant know, and we will get you a price for the “change order” as soon as possible. We will confirm the scope, terms, and price via email.
How are my pets cared for?
It’s good to keep them in a room away from the painting – and to pick up their messes when we’re painting outside
Do I need to move my furniture?
We ask customers to move the little and fragile stuff off the walls and furniture – we often assist with moving large furniture, esp with older customers.
Are my floors protected?
We will cover all necessary floors prior to any painting.
Can I pay by credit card?
Yes, but the total amount is subject to a 3% processing fee. If paying by check, please make it payable to “CertaPro Painters of Marietta”.
How long will my paint job last? How soon should I paint again?
Interior – The durability of an interior paint job largely depends on the level of traffic in that area of the house. High-traffic areas will require more frequent repainting compared to rooms with minimal footfall. Typically, interior paint can last around 10 years, considering normal wear and tear, or until you decide to change the color.
Exterior – Several factors influence the longevity of exterior paint. These factors include sun exposure, weather conditions, sprinkler systems, and specific surface material (such as stucco, vinyl, wood, etc.). Due to the unique characteristics of each house, it is difficult to provide an exact timeframe. However, as a general guideline, we recommend that exterior paint should last between 8-10 years, with the average lifespan tending towards the ten-year mark.
Does putting more coats of paint affect the longevity of my paint project?
The durability of a paint job is affected more by the quality of preparation than the number of coats of paint. New, raw surfaces usually receive a full prime coat prior to the finish coat(s) being applied. Additionally, dramatic color changes often require a full prime coat or second finish coat to cover the existing color.
How long does the new paint take to dry?
Typically, latex paints dry to the touch within 30-60 minutes, but the complete curing process takes several days. Certain specialty paints may require up to 30 days to fully cure. To avoid any issues with sticking, we advise regularly opening and closing newly painted windows and doors during this period. It is also recommended to refrain from touching the painted surfaces for at least an hour or more.
Do need approval from my Homeowners Association before I can paint?
This depends on your HOA, but usually, the answer is yes. Please make sure you are picking an approved color scheme and getting the necessary approvals. If you are unsure, we may be able to help you track down approved colors.
Will I save money if I buy the materials?
Not likely. Because of our high volume, we get major discounts with most paint manufacturers. If you want the best materials for the lowest price, let us get them for you.
Are more expensive paints better?
Usually yes, but not all projects need a more expensive paint. Please discuss with your sales consultant during your estimate and they will make the best recommendation and can give you a price option if you wish to upgrade your paint.
Which brands of paint are better?
We primarily use paints from Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore, locally, and each company makes good quality products. Certain products may be better for specific surfaces, conditions, etc.
Will CertaPro Painters leave me with Touchup Paint?
Yes! We will be happy to leave you with some leftover paint clearly labeled for future touchups. If you ever need to know the colors of your house, just let us know and we can look it up for you!
How can you help us?
We strive to provide a professional paint job at an affordable price. We take pride in our customer service before, during, and after your project. We would ask that you refer us to any family, friends, or neighbors who may be in need of our services. A review on any of the popular review sites (Yelp, Google, Home Advisor/Angi Leads) goes a long way in growing our business!
What is the process for painting the house? What do you do first?
Interior – we prep walls and discuss the order of rooms with the customer and crew – prep is important – then painting and cleanup –
Exterior – we power wash first if included – then carpentry if needed – and other prep- caulk, scrape – then prime bare areas, and then paint and cleanup
