How to Prepare the Interior of your Home for this Upcoming Spring

Posted on March 31, 2020

Although it might not feel like it yet, the warm weather will be here before we know it! This means getting our house back into tip-top shape. Ah yes, spring cleaning!

After all, this is a saying for a reason. There is something about the start of the spring when it just starts getting warm that gives us an extra burst of energy and motivation. AKA the perfect time to clean those places we normally would neglect. Here are some interior maintenance tasks you can complete as the winter months come to a close.

Leaks:

  • Check for leaky faucets
  • Check for clogged drains
  • Check for “sweating” pipes
  • Check under the sinks for wetness
  • Check the laundry room and around the hot water heaters for wetness as well

Air Conditioning:

  • Change the filter.
  • Check hose connection for leaks.
  • Check drain pans to make sure they are draining correctly.
  • Get rid of any dust.

If there are any problems you can’t take care of on your own, call a professional.

Attics:

  • Look for any unwanted pests that may have taken shelter in your home during the winter.
  • Check for mold. It usually looks like gray or black stains.
  • Ensure that there is proper ventilation and insulation.

Basements:

Check for dampness. If it is damp this means, there is too much humidity in that space. You will need to ensure there is proper ventilation. If you don’t already have a dehumidifier, invest in one.

General Cleaning:

  • Dust all of the stair rails, ceiling fans and blinds.
  • Vacuum the furniture, carpets and anywhere else that may have gathered dust.
  • Wash the walls with warm water and soap.
  • Wash out and organize kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
  • Clean tile and look for any water damage that needs to be repaired.
