CAMP PROJECT IN LITTLE ROCK, AR

In 2012, Camp Aldersgate commissioned CertaPro to paint several of the buildings on their campus, including the beautiful Commons building. Initially, the scope of work was to re-stain the wooden beams and detailing on the exterior of the building. It was later decided that a longer-term solution to protect the wooden areas of the structure was to paint the previously stained areas.

The 12,000 square foot campus suffered from common exterior problems, spanning from mildew to fading and wear from exposure to the elements. CertaPro Painters® were well-equipped to handle the issues that required attention, providing a professional touch to the Aldersgate’s campus.

CHALLENGES

Projects of this size often present their own set of distinctive obstacles. Coordination among the team and communication with the campus administration was paramount to professionally and efficiently complete the project.

The wooden areas of the Camp’s 12,000 SF Commons building are both structural and difficult to access. The stained finish on the wood had become spotty with mildew and had broken down due to weather and sun exposure. Paint was chosen over staining again to extend the life of the coating. The stain color was carefully matched and from a distance it is not easy to tell that the wood is not stained.

CONDITIONS

  • Dirty and Worn Areas – The wood surfaces needed to be accessed with a lift to clean and prep for the new finish
  • Time Sensitive – Work on the project had to be completed between camp sessions with no campers on the property

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

  • Prep – the wood surfaces were prepared by cleaning and removing mildew, then primed with color matched primer
  • Paint – Sherwin Williams Resilience paint was chosen to extend the maintenance period

PROJECT TIMELINE – Approximately 2 weeks

BEFORE PHOTOS

Before the project began, CertaPro Painters® surveyed the area and took pictures of sections that required their attention.
