University Painting Project in Searcy, AR
Harding University is a near century old private Christian college located in Searcy, Arkansas. CertaPro Painters® of Central Arkansas were asked to handle sheetrock finishing on the property, alongside painting the door frames, tile walls, and concrete. The total square footage of the job was around 15,000 square feet of wall space. The scale of this project may seem intimidating, but the professionals at CertaPro are well equipped to handle assignments of great magnitude and variety, while still maintaining high standards.
This assignment came with a decent amount of variety—from sheetrock finishing to painting concrete, tile, and door frames—and totaled around 15,000 square feet of wall space. Even with the range of materials and surfaces, our crew completed the job in just two weeks.
CONDITIONS:
CONDITIONS:This job was located on the campus of Harding University, a private Christian college in Searcy, AR. The specific building was once used as a student dorm but had since been converted into office space for the university staff. The interior spaces included various wall types—plaster, sheetrock, and tiled hallways—which gave us an opportunity to apply several different painting techniques across the 15,000 square feet of wall space.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
This project included multiple stages:
Skim coating and finishing sheetrock walls
Repairing and painting older plaster surfaces
Surface preparation and painting of tiled walls
Painting concrete wall areas
Repainting numerous metal door frames throughout the building
Each area required a slightly different approach, but all were completed to match the updated design of the office space. Our team worked closely with Harding University’s in-house construction team to ensure that the final look fit in with the broader campus aesthetic.
CHALLENGES:
The biggest challenge was the tile in the hallway. Tile is naturally slick and not ideal for direct paint application. To make sure the paint would hold up over time, we had to create the right surface profile for adhesion. That meant careful sanding and using the right bonding primer. We also needed to be mindful of transitions between different wall types—like where plaster met tile or sheetrock—so that the paint finish appeared seamless across each section.
