One of the reasons to hire a painting company instead of doing it yourself is to gain their expertise about what paints and materials to use in different situations.  Because we have used many different paints in many different applications, we have a very good idea of what will work best for you.

For example, we have many customers say: “I am glad you use Sherwin Williams – I like that paint and it is a quality brand”.  While that is true, there are many, many Sherwin Williams paints that we would not recommend in your home.  Some paints are superior for certain applications while other paints are better in a different environment.  We don’t necessarily subscribe to the old adage that “You get what you pay for” but at the same time that has a tendency to be pretty accurate when it comes to paint.

The most expensive components in paint are pigments (colors) and binders (glue).  One of the most expensive pigments is Titanium DiOxide (TiO2).  Titanium Dioxide is what give paint its opacity or ability to hide what is underneath it.  To make paints cheaper manufacturers typically use a cheaper clay as a substitute and/or a cheaper binder.  The end result is that you may have to put three or four coats of paint to get it to cover properly.  And if you finally get it to cover properly, it may wash off because of the cheaper glue.

Because of all this coupled with the fact that we purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars of paint each year we can get a very attractive price and get you exactly what you need for your project.   As a result, we typically recommend that you allow us to purchase the paint. We do add a small mark-up on our cost, but under most conditions, it is still cheaper than you can buy it for.

Based on all that, if you still want to provide the paint, that is perfectly acceptable and we can use it for your project.  The only issue that arises is that if we cannot control the quality of the paint, we cannot provide a warranty that ensures its effectiveness for your application.
