In this case study, we recap a commercial painting project that began in March of 2021 for the Lackawanna College in Tunkhannock, PA. We detail the steps from an epoxy floor covering project.

Describe the condition of the facility/surfaces at the time work began.

The customer was having a new college location built and contracted us to do all the interior and exterior painting for this project. While completing the first phase of the painting, the customer inquired about applying epoxy flooring to one of the pro shop floors. The floor was in pretty good shape and only required a little patching to prep it for Epoxy.

Describe the steps of the project?

1.) Acid was used to etch the flooring.
2.) Waited for the floor to dry and moisture to reduce.
3.) Patched cement and smoothed over so flaws wouldn’t be visible.
4.) Caulked certain areas.
5.) Applied two coats of Sherwin Williams Rexthane Epoxy coating.

How long did the project take, start to finish?

This process took 3 days to complete. Painters continued to paint other areas of the college in between drying times.

Were there any special challenges involved?

The biggest challenge with this project was being patient and making sure the moisture level was low enough before applying the Epoxy. If it had been too high, the product would have failed.
