What Exterior Paint Colors to Keep Birds and Bees Away?

Posted on August 31, 2021

With summer coming to a close and fall approaching, the CertaPro Painters® of Highlands Ranch team is preparing for one of our busiest times of the year! The fall is a great time to complete exterior painting projects here in Highlands-Ranch, CO. If you have an upcoming exterior paint project and still haven’t decided on a paint color, this post may be beneficial for you. Do you have an issue with pesky birds and bees around your home? Do you feel as though they are somehow attracted to your home? You may very well be right. The paint color of your house could actually be drawing in the birds and bees.

Birds can be particularly damaging to your home. Some homeowners will find themselves with thousands of dollars worth of damage from birds. This can be due to them breaking windows and damaging siding. Their droppings can corrode any metal and concrete on your home. Another common problem is their debris and feathers clogging gutters and drains. If you are having issues with birds around your property, consider painting your home white. One thing all types of birds seem to agree on is avoiding white. White paint create feelings of danger within birds and therefore they will avoid it. On the other hand, paint colors in brown and green shades seem to signal that it is a safe place for them and they may make themselves at home.

If bees are your issue, any bright color should be avoided. Dull or pastel paint colors are your best bet because they do not appear as vivid and therefore they are more likely to avoid your home.

While you may not base the color of your home based off this information, it can still be interesting to know! If you have not a scheduled an exterior paint project for this upcoming season and would like to do so, you can schedule a free, no obligation estimate today.
