Paint Technology to Weather Proof and Protect
Posted on September 16, 2019
Pretty paint is a great addition to any home. Did you know it’s also your home’s first line of defense against the elements and pests? New technology in paint can help you paint to weatherproof with paint technology to protect.
Weatherproof
Paint creates an impenetrable seal between your home and the elements. Keeping moisture out of the house is an invaluable benefit of the nice color. Sleet, rain, ice and snow will remain outside, where they belong. Cracks, chips or bubbles in the paint allow the wet to enter the home and cause further problems. If you ignore breaks in the paint, you could be looking at more expensive repairs for rot, mold and other issues down the line. Updating older paint will help to keep the seal intact, and the water out.
Work with Moisture
Certain masonry for homes is meant to work with ambient moisture. Concrete and brick can have a fair amount of water trapped within the stone at all times. If you use traditional paint on them, you’ll be trapping the wetness in where it should be able to escape causing potential damage to bricks. Try an elastomeric paint which can expand and contract with the bricks and their interior moisture. Behr’s Premium Elastomeric paint claims to withstand rains and up to 10 mph winds. Because it’s an acrylic latex paint, mildew and dirt will also wash right off.
Keep cool
Avoid hot toes running around a sun-drenched pool deck. IR Reflective Technology is now offered in some paints to reflect heat and keep feet cool. Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck utilizes pigments in their deck stain to reflect the sunshine and make your deck more usable even on hot days.
Paint on Siding
The only way to keep the siding looking new used to be putting up new siding. Liquid Rubber Siding says not so. It is 10x thicker than an exterior paint, giving it the same protection power as new siding without the cost. There are thousands of colors to appeal to any aesthetic with the bonus of the protection of new siding.
Avoid Vermin
Pest control experts have always said to dilute white latex paint on tree trunks to keep vermin out of trees and adjacent houses. Putting it on fruit and flowering trees will keep bugs from getting your fruit or destroying your flowers, but think bigger. Try it around cellars, doors, windows and porches to discourage crawlies and critters to find shelter and food elsewhere.
Prevent Rust
Weather and seasons can cause a mess on your outdoor metal. Get some Rust-Oleum to protect railings, furniture, or other exposed metal around your home. The oils built into this paint will protect the metal from chipping and rusting. You can bring rusted furniture back to life too but sanding it down and applying a coat of this paint.
