5 Simple Ways to Spruce Up Your Backyard for Less
Posted on April 29, 2020
If your first foray into your backyard has left you with a letdown, don’t worry. Spend a weekend updating your oasis at home with a few ideas for sprucing. Here are 5 simple ways to spruce up your backyard for less.
Paint or Stain
First on any backyard project should be an inspection of any buildings, outbuildings, decks or other structures on your property. It’s possible the winter weather has caused potential damage. Look over all of your walls for signs of water pooling or intrusion. Even without damage or issues, you can quickly update your backyard with a painting or staining project. Adding a whimsical color to a shed or a new stain to your deck gives just the pop you’re looking for to update for spring.
Plant
Spring means green. Typically a backyard needs some attention to get it back to its luster of last year. Grab the kids and start weeding and pulling to start with a blank slate. Choose some new plants and flowers to bring the vibrance back to your yard. Add some grass fertilizer and seeds to bolster your green yard. All of these plants should be chosen based on the color scheme of your yard. Don’t choose colorful flowers that don’t work with your house’s paint.
Accessories
Take the opportunity to add a pop of color to your property with some patio furniture or architectural designs. Shutters, trim and doors are great places to add a new color to your overall property. This works really well if your house is mostly neutrals. Add a red door, blue shutters or other color you like. If you have color on your house, try a neutral color like black trim or barely there yellow for the shutters.
Privacy
If your backyard is looking fairly stellar, this could be the spring where you add a privacy wall or trellis. Either is a good addition to any backyard and oozes with luxury. The cost to put one up is relatively small for the impact you’ll feel after. This is another opportunity to bring color with paint or stain.
