How to Touch-Up the Paint on your Walls

Whether you decide to paint yourself or hire a professional, painting the interior of your home can take a lot of time and money. Once it is done you want it to stay looking just as perfect as it did the day it was painted. But we all know that’s nearly impossible. We eventually sit down on our couches one night after a long day at work and begin to notice all of the scuffs, scratches, etc. that have somehow ended up on our walls. Fortunately, making your walls look as good as new again isn’t that difficult. Keep reading to find out how to make it look like those scuffs and scratches were never even there.

1. Buy the right type of paint. Stick with a high-quality paint. If you have set a budget, get the highest quality one you can within your price range. It does make a difference. Also, ask the sales person what the best touch-up paint they would recommend is.
2. Match the texture. A paint brush will leave a different texture on your will than a roller. You want to use whatever was used when the walls were originally painted in order for it all to blend together seamlessly.
3. Brush Technique. If you cannot figure out how to make the textures match, then your best option is to invest in a high-quality paint brush. Cover it in paint so that there are no dry spots and wipe off any excess. You will want to work from the center outward.
4. Thin the paint down. This will help ensure that the touch-ups match the wall. The general rule is 5%-10% water for latex paints and 5%-10% mineral spirits for oil-based paints.
5. Less is more. Make sure not to get carried away painting a large portion of the wall. You should only be painting the space where the damage is.
