Deck Staining Northwest Arkansas

Deck Staining Projects in Northwest Arkansas

Staining your deck not only highlights the wood grain and improves its overall appearance, but it will also increase its lifespan by preventing rot and insect infestation. Deck staining will also prevent the wood from absorbing moisture, which can freeze causing costly damage.

When it comes to choosing deck stain colors, there are plenty of options, from natural-looking clear wood stains to bold solid colors. While you’re looking for one to suit your project, you should consider that a clear stain will bring out the wood grain, while a solid color will reveal very little of the wood’s natural color.

Many homeowners leave their pressure-treated wood as is because they think that you can not apply stain to treatment. This is not the case. There are many different shades of stain that can complement the look of treated wood. You can stain all decks whether they are pressure treated or they have already been stained.

Our Process

Most exterior staining projects include the below steps, however your project could vary depending on the type of project. Meet with one of our project estimators to get details of what your specific project plan will look like.

Clean & Wash Surfaces

The first step is to make sure all surfaces are clean of mold, dust, and grime. Surfaces will be pressure washed as a first step with a cleaning solution.

Prep Surfaces

Prep work is a very important step to a successful application of stain or paint. In this step we remove loose coatings or peeling paint with a scraper or wire brush. In some cases, sanding may be done on this step as well.

Apply Stain

Stain is applied to the cleaned and prepped surfaces. Stains come in several styles and we can present options to you during an initial estimate appointment.

Maintain

Stained decks need more frequent maintenance and upkeep than other parts of your home. Touchup work may be needed on horizontal surfaces every 1-4 years. Surfaces should also be cleaned at least once a year.

Stain Options

There are several types of stain, a CertaPro representative can discuss the best option for your project. Below are a few popular types of stain used on properties in NWA. Factors that can influence your decision include the age of the wood, the type of wood, and how much wood grain you want to show through the stain.

Clear / Toner

Clear stains have no pigment, and are best utilized on new wood. Clear stains are not commonly used in the area, but have a time and place. Learn more by setting up an appointment with our team.

Transparent

Transparent stains have some pigment and allow wood grain to show through. It helps hide imperfections in the wood, but maintains a natural wood look.

Semi-Transparent or Translucent

Semi transparent stains have more color than transparent stain. Semi-transparent stain also helps hide imperfections in wood and gives a darker, but still natural finish. This is one of the most popular types of stain in the area.

Solid Stain

Solid stains are dark enough to not allow wood grain to show through, they are the most durable and are best at hiding flaws in the wood. Solid stains also come in a wide variety of colors.
