Our Process for Floor Coating Projects
Floor coating installations require a multi-step process that could vary depending the the details of your project. The below outline gives a good overview of what to expect, the steps for your project may vary slightly from this depending on the scope of work and type of installation.
Workspace Prep
The day begins with setting up a work area, including protection for walls and a staging area where products will be mixed and prepped.
Floor Grinding
Most projects require a grinding machine to be run across the concrete surfaces. The rough texture it leaves behind is needed for form a strong bond.
Repair Imperfections
Cracks, dings, and dents are fixed prior to applying the first coating. It's important to complete this step to ensure an even surface on the final product.
Surface Cleaning
The last step before we apply base coat is to clean the surface well with vacuums. Dust and debris needs to be eliminated to ensure proper adhesion.
Apply First Base Coat
A base coat is applied to the prepped concrete floor. The base coat is mixed in the staging area and quickly applied to the floor with rollers and squeegees.
Apply Chips
The size and type of chip will have been determined during your initial estimate and quite. In this phase we broadcast chips across the base coat evenly.
Scrape Excess Chips
After being left to dry, excess chips are scraped off the surface leaving only the strongly bonded chips that had direct contact with the base coat.
Clean up (round 2)
After scraping a lot of loose chips are usually left on the floor. We use an industrial vacuum to clean any excess or loose chips from the floor before applying a top coat.
Apply Top/ Clear Coat
The last step is to apply a clearcoat to the surface. Edges are usually done by hand and the rest are evenly spread with a squeegee. The surface is then left to let dry before being used.
