Swim School Pool Center Interior Painting
A Swim School in Springfield, Virginia was looking for professional preparation and painting of their new facility. The overall goal was to assist the facility in rebranding by updating the interior with a new contemporary look. In the process, we revitalized the appearance and restored their durable protective condition. The project included professional coordination; communication; safety measures; tools/equipment; preparation and cleaning; application techniques and processes; and use of the top-rated industrial-grade coatings and materials (Sherwin Williams).
CertaPro’s goal was to recondition the paintable surfaces by restoring the condition and protective properties of the new facility. In the process, we delivered a new attractive color scheme as provided by the designer. The project was completed on time and on budget and the customer was very happy. We look forward to our continued partnership with the General Contractor moving forward on future endeavors!
About the Project
Condition of Facility:
This project, as part of a larger renovation, involved professional coordination with a General Contractor, separate contractors, and on-site facility management to ensure seamless operations from start to finish. Due to the size of the project and pre-determined dates for completion, we supported the facility operations by completing tasks at specified dates and times while also carefully and strategically working hand in hand with other contractors to ensure segments of the project stayed on schedule and met deadlines over the course of 5 months.
Project Involvement:
- Scope of Work – The project included the vestibule, lobby/reception, large pool area, men’s and women’s dressing rooms, maintenance closets, and administrative offices. In each designated room/area, the scope of work called for the painting of ceilings, walls, doors and frames, metal railings, exposed cross beams and conduits, as well as the exterior front façade.
- Setup and Preparation – We paid attention to the details to ensure all surfaces were properly prepared (“paint-ready”) prior to paint application. This included performing skilled Level-3 Professional Preparation to all surrounding surfaces ie. addressing all nail pops/holes, damaged drywall (including wall scuffs), repairing cracks and tape seams, re-caulking open seams around trim, and spot priming bare surfaces/repair work so as to ensure a uniform finish of the top coat of paint. We coordinated with the General Contractor to have all furniture and miscellaneous items removed from each room/area and we carefully masked and covered floors and mounted fixtures in advance of painting.
- Primer – We spot primed any bare substrate or new substrate repair work. We also spot primed any surface contamination that could not otherwise be removed. All new work was sealed and protected prior to being painted to permit proper adherence of the topcoat.
- Sherwin Williams, Multi-Purpose Latex Primer was used on components where adhesion was in question or there was bare/new work.
- Sherwin Williams, Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer was used for the pool ceiling as well as metal components to inhibit the potential of rust.
- Paint – We top coated surfaces with a combination of the following premium product lines:
- Sherwin Williams, Duration Acrylic Latex in a Matte Finish
- Sherwin Williams, Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Waterbased Epoxy in an Eggshell Finish
- Sherwin Williams, ProMar Ceiling Paint in a Flat Finish
- Sherwin Williams, Pro Industrial Waterbased Acrolon 100
- We top coated all doors and door frames, vanity’s, and headboards with Sherwin Williams, Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Waterbased Epoxy in a Semi-Gloss Finish.
- For newly installed quarter round molding, we top coated with Sherwin Williams, ProMar 200 Zero VOC Interior Latex in a Semi-Gloss Finish.
We followed Sherwin-William’s specification’s in regards to preparation and applied wet film thickness of all products. These premium coatings far surpass other quality paints guaranteeing great lasting results that will enhance the properties appearance and reduce your maintenance burden. All paint was applied in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s minimum recommendations. Paint was applied using a brush/roller or spraying equipment with back rolling to avoid defects, streaks, and sagging.
Special Challenges:
The project was completed safely and efficiently. Due to the operational hours of the Swim School and the pre-determined schedule requirements of the larger renovation project, we regularly coordinated with the General Contractor Representative through daily/weekly pre-scheduled inspections and provided daily and weekly progress updates on the project to ensure the completion of the project within the requested time frames. In terms of special equipment, We utilized 2 types of rolling scaffolding. Pertaining to the pool area, We used 1 set of rolling scaffolding on the pool deck and a separate set of scaffolding in the pool. This enabled our crews to adequately and safely reach all elevated surfaces (including ceilings and conduits). Overall, we delivered on the expectations envisioned by the Swim School facilities and General Contractor and delivered extraordinary results.
