Camping World Interior Painting Case Study
This project was to paint the interior of Camping World in Manassas, Virginia to help them complete a store renovation. The facility was 26,000 square feet and consisted of a RV Showroom and Camping Supplies Retail store.
CHALLENGES:
Condition of Property:
Prior to the renovation, the paint was faded in many places and the store graphics were old and outdated. There were cracks and dings in the walls and the paint was chipping on doors and trim.
Project Involvement:
This project involved repainting the facility’s walls, split-faced concrete block, doors, door frames, and corrugated metal ceilings, track lighting systems, and metal stairway systems. We also had to remove the old wall graphics and prepare these surfaces for paint by removing these adhered graphics and underlying glues, skim coating the walls, and then sanding to a smooth surface before priming and painting.
Special Challenges:
One of the challenges of this project was removing the wall graphics as they had been on the walls for a long time and did not come off very easy. We ended up having to apply a skim coat of joint compound over some of the graphics and finish the walls by sanding and priming with an oil based primer to prevent any wallpaper glues from reacting with the water-based top-coat. These graphics were along the top of 20 foot walls so this required the use of an indoor lift in order to access these areas and move quickly.
There were other trades involved with this facility’s renovation, so we had to make sure we managed the project well and completed our portion of the project in the specified time. We worked closely and communicated well with Camping World’s facilities manager to make sure we stayed on task.
Special Equipment:
This project required the use of a 26 foot indoor electric scissor lift in order to reach the higher areas of the facility especially when removing the wall graphics and skim coating, as well as painting the blue stripe along the top areas of the walls.
Our paint teams are all lift certified and have over 2000+ hours of lift experience with zero incidents. The lift was not only needed to help with the overall speed of the project, but also to ensure that our paint team was able to safely produce this project without the risk of injury.
Time Length: 2 Weeks
