A room-by-room guide to our interior pricing:

Many customers want to understand our pricing to help them budget their project, so we’ve put together this room-by-room guide to help you budget. These prices are averages, and the price of your project may be affected up or down by the actual factors of your home’s interior and your expectations.

In general, these things will affect the cost of your project:

1) The number of components and surfaces we’ll be painting will affect the price. For example, will we be painting your ceilings? Walls? Doors? Closets? Baseboard and crown moulding?
2) The preexisting conditions of the surfaces and your expectations on their final appearance makes a difference in preparation cost. If there are lots of cracks, gouges, or holes in the surfaces, we’ll need to add more labor time to your quote to repair them. If your expectation is perfection, then more time is needed to ensure the highest level of finish to the substrate. Special conditions like drywall repair, new wood finishing, and wallpaper removal also drive the price higher because they require unique skills and additional labor and materials.
3) Wall height is a factor because painting an 8-foot high wall is much easier to paint than an 18-foot foyer wall. And the same applies to the related ceilings – an 8-foot high ceiling is much easier to paint than an 18-foot foyer ceiling. Ceiling style and texture are also cost factors because vaulted, tray or featured ceilings are more labor-intensive and usually require more paint. These ceilings may also require special equipment such as scaffolding. Textured ceilings also tend to cost more because of their need for extra paint to cover the extra surface area and the need for special roller covers and slower application techniques.
5) Will you be changing colors? Usually, if you’re changing colors to something much darker or much lighter it will require more coats of paint to cover over the old color. This adds extra labor time and paint gallons to the project. We usually recommend using premium paints that can achieve basic color changes in 2-coats and refresh a color match with 1-coat. Ceilings may require more coats due to their tendency to be highly absorbent. Occasionally, we’ll need a primer coat or additional topcoat to achieve more dramatic color changes (for example, if we’re changing a wall color from brown to yellow or white to deep blue or red (or vice versa)).
6) Some examples of our pricing using typical room sizes in the Northern Virginia area.
These are just some of the factors that contribute to the price of painting the interior of your home. Below you will find some examples of some common-sized rooms. All ceiling and wall prices are based on 2 coats of paint and all trim surfaces and doors are based on a 1 coat refresh of a mid-grade premium paint from recognized paint companies.

The prices below are based on painting the walls and then adding other surfaces. The price includes standard prep for each surface being painted. Prices may vary based on total rooms and surfaces being done during the entire project.

Assumptions that accompany these prices:

Ceiling and Wall prices are based on 2 coats of paint.

Doors & trim 1 coat of paint (doors and door frames, window frames, window sills, window sashes and mullions, baseboard, and crown moulding). For windows and exterior doors, includes inside surfaces only.

Mid-grade premium paint such as Sherwin Williams Superpaint or Cashmere or Benjamin Moore Ben. Choosing a decent paint matters, and will almost always save you money.
